KIBV3 — Modular Integrated Vest with a Two-Piece Soft Armour System

KIBV3 is an integrated ballistic vest designed for users who need extended torso coverage while retaining low weight, mobility and a modular equipment platform.

KIBV3 uses the same construction solutions and functions as CIBV3, but replaces the four-piece ballistic system and ballistic cummerbunds with a two-piece soft armour set — front and back — and a hybrid cummerbund. The front and rear inserts have extended side wings that overlap along the sides of the torso when the vest is correctly adjusted. This provides extended coverage without separate ballistic inserts in the cummerbund.

KIBV3 is compatible with CIBV2 MED soft ballistic inserts, allowing users of the earlier system to reuse their inserts. Internal front and rear pockets also accept standard 25 × 30 cm / 10″ × 12″ hard ballistic plates, so the configuration can be adapted to the task and threat level.

Two-Piece Soft Armour System

The soft armour system consists of two shaped inserts: one front insert and one rear insert. Both have extended side wings designed to overlap at the wearer’s sides. This arrangement covers the front, back and sides of the torso without a ballistic cummerbund. The inserts are compatible with CIBV2 MED.

Hybrid Cummerbund

The hybrid cummerbund keeps the vest securely fitted and provides additional equipment mounting space. Unlike CIBV3, it does not contain separate soft ballistic inserts. Side coverage comes from the overlapping wings of the main front and rear inserts, reducing the weight and bulk of the side system.

Hard Plate Compatibility

Internal front and rear pockets accept standard 25 × 30 cm / 10″ × 12″ hard ballistic plates. Hard plates can be used together with the soft inserts to configure the vest for the required threat and protection level.

Optional Shoulder Protection

The vest can be equipped with shoulder Comfort Pads accepting optional ballistic inserts. These extend soft ballistic coverage around the shoulders without changing the basic vest configuration.

Laser-Cut MOLLE

The laser-cut MOLLE system allows magazine pouches, utility pouches and other equipment to be mounted while maintaining a low profile. Equipment placement can be adapted to the user, weapon system and task.

Removable Front Panel

A removable front panel allows equipment configurations to be changed quickly without rebuilding the whole vest setup.

KIBV3 is not supplied with the QUASM buckles used to attach the front panel. Each compatible Templar’s Gear front panel includes a complete set of QUASM buckles that can be fitted directly to the vest. The required buckles therefore come with the front panel and do not need to be purchased separately.

Identification Areas

Large front and rear hook-and-loop areas accommodate identification patches, unit insignia, service markings and role panels.

Reinforced Drag Handle

A reinforced rear drag handle allows the wearer to be moved or evacuated in an emergency.

Adjustable Fit

The ladder-style shoulder adjustment and hybrid cummerbund allow the vest to be fitted to the wearer. Correct adjustment also maintains the intended overlap between the side wings of the front and rear soft armour inserts.

Materials and Construction

The main structure is made from monolithic Baucent laminate for durability and structural stability with a low profile. The body-facing Gambeson-type lining improves comfort during prolonged use, reduces localised pressure and helps distribute the weight of the vest and attached equipment.

Protection Configuration

• Basic soft armour: front and rear inserts with extended side wings, compatible with CIBV2 MED and designed to overlap at the wearer’s sides.

• Additional hard armour: front and rear 25 × 30 cm / 10″ × 12″ ballistic plates.

• Optional protection: ballistic inserts for shoulder Comfort Pads.

This configuration combines extended soft armour coverage and hard plate compatibility with reduced weight and bulk in the side system.
